Research Contract Positions

 

The Centre for Competition, Regulation and Economic Development (CCRED) at the University of Johannesburg is seeking to appoint Research Interns, Associate Researchers and Researchers.

CCRED undertakes economic research and teaching on competition policy, regulation and industrial development in Africa, organised in terms of medium- and long-term projects in each of these core research themes (please see www.competition.org.za for more details). CCRED has several exciting research projects, including on competition policy and economic regulation; climate change and food markets; domestic, regional and global value chains; digitalisation and digital markets; and industrial development and green industrialisation.

The Centre provides a dynamic, team-based, flexible work environment for ambitious researchers with a passion for using research to shape policies for inclusive markets and sustainable development in Africa. CCRED also provides great opportunities for research-related travel and holistic development of early-career scholars. As part of its ambitious strategy, the Centre is recruiting:

  • Research Interns: Talented early-career researchers seeking to gain work experience in an established and impactful research centre. The Research Intern positions are suited for candidates that have recently completed (or in the final stages of) a Master’s degree in economics with a strong academic record and training in economics.

  • Associate Researchers and Researchers: Dynamic candidates with relevant academic or practitioner experience and demonstrated ability to produce high-quality research. Associate Researcher and Researcher positions are suited for candidates with at least 2 years of relevant experience in a research environment, a strong academic record, and a completed Master’s degree in economics. Evidence of prior experience with academic publication is an advantage.

All positions are contracted for work on a full-time basis, generally awarded for a one-year period initially with the possibility of extension based on experience, strong performance and the pipeline of research projects at CCRED. Packages are market related and commensurate with experience. CCRED reserves the right not to make any appointments under this call.
