Senior/Researcher Contract Positions

The Centre for Competition, Regulation and Economic Development (CCRED) at the University of Johannesburg is seeking to appoint strong researchers that are passionate about industrial development, competition and economic growth. CCRED works closely with institutions such as the Competition Commission South Africa and the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) in South Africa on these questions. We have been appointed as the Industrial Development Think Tank (IDTT) by the dti to, among others, explore the implications of industrial development in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). Such initiatives afford researchers an opportunity to conduct policy-relevant academic research.

CCRED partners with international organisations and national and local governments to provide high-quality academic research on important issues such as structural transformation of the economy, barriers to entry, regional industrialisation and regional value chains, competition and regulation, cluster development and local economic development, and sectoral development strategies (please see for more details).

CCRED is seeking to appoint Senior/Researcher(s) on a full-time contract for 36 months. The Candidate should possess the following:

  • A strong academic training in economics, with at least five years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality research output
  • Experience in analysing competition issues, industrial development and regional integration would be an added advantage

There is the potential for those seeking to do a PhD to take-up a position, which will combine the doctoral research with the CCRED research work.
