THE CENTRE FOR COMPETITION, REGULATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, (CCRED) IS HIRING!

Researcher Positions in Competition and the African Market Observatory

The Centre for Competition, Regulation and Economic Development (CCRED) at the University of Johannesburg is seeking to appoint Researchers at different levels, with experience in competition economics and data science. The researchers will be involved in analysing markets, competition and company strategies in a range of sectors and countries across East and Southern Africa. This includes working with CCRED’s African Market Observatory analysing food and agriculture markets.

The research falls within the CCRED portfolio of economic research and teaching on competitionpolicy, regulation and industrial development in Africa (see www.competition.org.za for more details). Exciting research projects underway include climate change and food markets; national and regional competition dynamics; regional and global value chains and tackling barriers to the entry and growth of African entrepreneurs.

The Centre provides a dynamic, team-based, flexible work environment for ambitious researchers with a passion for using research to shape policies for inclusive markets and sustainable development in Africa. CCRED provides great opportunities for research-related travel and holistic development of early-career scholars, including through a network of international partnerships.

Researchers should have a strong postgraduate academic training in economics or closely related discipline, a track record in applied research, and demonstrated initiative in addressing real-world research challenges including fieldwork. Experience working on competition cases will be an advantage.

All positions are contracted for work on a full-time basis, generally awarded for a one-year period initially with the possibility of extension based on experience, strong performance and the pipeline of research projects at CCRED. Packages are market related and commensurate with experience. CCRED reserves the right not to make any appointments under this call. Applicants should forward a comprehensive CV to selim@uj.ac.za by 16:00 on 31 July 2024. Queries canbe addressed to Seli Nthite at selim@uj.ac.za or 011 559 7523.
