Power and Inequality in Production Systems (PIPS)
2020-2024
With the Copenhagen Business School (CBS) · Funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark
In partnership with the Centre for Business and Development Studies at the Copenhagen Business School (CBS) in Denmark, CCRED undertook research funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark on the wine and fish value chains in South Africa. The project examined issues of sustainability, power, governance, participation, industrial upgrading, and the implications of value chain structures for inequality. The research produced significant outputs, including working papers and journal articles published in leading journals such as Geoforum and Regulation & Governance.
As part of the project, CCRED hosted a successful international conference in 2024 focused on the systematic analysis of power and inequality in global and regional value chains and production networks. The conference explored the conditions under which inequalities are challenged, reinforced, or mitigated, and resulted in a selection of papers published in special issues of the European Journal of Development Research and Competition & Change.
